The highly justified feature of “photomosaics” is sweet. I’ve been using this ability for years now, and it’s one of the best parts of the editor. It’s also the one aspect I miss most when using Lightroom or Photoshop. The current version of Lightroom 5 makes it possible to accomplish that and I’m looking forward to seeing who’s creating the most dynamic images using this ability and sharing them with the world.

I should have been using Lightroom for years by now, but I didn’t until version 5 came out. Lightroom 5 is a powerful tool for organizing images in a less complicated light than the infamous Bridge in Bridge. Photoshop Elements for Mac has been kicking my butt for years, Lightroom 5 is the perfect solution.

Photoshop incorporates the Adobe Ideas project. Features such as the online cloud syncing and collaborative work, “Project Sharing,” integrate other Adobe products and platforms, like MobileMe, into the Creative Suite. The idea is that you can work on the same idea in a variety of places and compare your work at any time. It’s much like GPS routing – without having to bring your geographical navigation tools. Both locations can be used via the newest version of the desktop app.

The new Create, Preview, and Open dialogs are something we’ve been hearing about for some time. Photoshop CS6 finally shows where the dialogs go and makes the pop-up menus much easier to navigate. Lightroom 5 now uses the same Navigating dialog set-up.

Many people were concerned that moving the “New” button from the bottom to the right side would be a missed opportunity for updating Photoshop’s look. With a Web 2.0 feel, the “New” button will now be seen as part of Photoshop’s “features” rather than, well, a button. So now we get “New” posing as a menu. Photoshop CS6 also introduces a “recent” menu. These menus are fairly Microsoft-like with a drop down menu and a default menu choice crammed into each category. At least that was the impression I got when using these new menus for the first time.
