The Mumbai Police have registered a case of assault against
their colleague and suspended the officer for allegedly exposing himself
while he was giving a lecture in a girls college in Mumbai, police said.
Five police personnel, including a professor and an assistant headmaster
were attending the lecture on the ‘Punjab Police Act’ at the Hind
Education Society’s Mahila College here on Wednesday night when the
incident occurred, the police said.

According to the cops, Assistant Commissioner of Police
(ACP) Satyen Nagar had taken an indecent exposure case against Deputy
Commissioner of Police (DCP) Parag Patil when the latter was teaching
the lecture to over 200 students. He had then tried to get the students
to come to his house and drop their complaints, police said.

ACP Satyen allegedly asked the students to keep their complaints
in the lecture hall. The lecture was attended by the students and
officials of the college management.

The students, however, filed a complaint against ACP Nagar and
DCP Patil after the lecture, saying they were shocked to see the
accident.

The students also alleged that ACP Satyen took the indecent
exposure case for the sake of his personal interest, the police said.
“ACP Nagar was in the college for a lecture, when DCP Patil made an
opening statement in the language of law. The students were all very
shocked at the mention of indecent exposure case,” Nalin Gupta,
proctor of the college, said.

ACP Nagar has also been suspended and an investigation has been
launched against him, he added.

Aftab Ahmed, the president of the Hind Education Society,
said: “ACP Satyen had been assigned the responsibility to stop
discussion on law in the college premises. His behaviour was shameful.
He even asked the students not to speak and threatened to file a
complaint of indecent exposure against DCP Patil.”

“We have lodged a complaint and he has been suspended from
duty. We have asked ACP Nagar to go to the college to make an
apology,” Ahmed added.

The students have been asked to file their complaints on August
9.
